THANK YOU, EVERYONE!

Ok, so my 19th birthday was waayyy better than I expected. My goodness, NR0608 never fails to surprise me when I least expect it. I mean, I know they're not the type who'll forget someone's birthday, but when I stepped into the lab that morning, only the girls from my sub-group wished me Happy Birthday whereas the others were too engrossed in poking their fingers to do experiments with their blood.

So I just went along with the rest of my lectures and tutorials... ultimately forgetting that it was my birthday because I was pissed at someone for not attending our meeting, resulting in me having to clear her shit. That aside, YES, I did forget it was my birthday until the last tutorial of the day, when Shan Ling suddenly walked up to me and handed me a blue package and a yellow birthday card!

WOW! WOW! WOW!

The class sang me a birthday song. Now that's a first! Hahaha! The last time I had the whole class sing a song for me was back in 1999. Tsktsktsk... That was eons ago man.

This will probably take forever to type out but heck, I'm just gonna do it anyway because I LOVE THESE PEOPLE A WHOLE LOT!

NR0608; thank you SO MUCH for the present, guys! Really thoughtful of ya'll to get me that Nike top. Hahaha! I was considering getting one for my training but now, I got it entirely FREE! Wahaha! I am so lovin' the card as well (despite having Theresa and Shidah writing "28-07-07" instead of the CORRECT date!). A big hug to all of you, especially Dorie, Duckie, Tong Tong, Shan Ling, Cat, Karie, Ter-ter, Ah Chen & Andy!

CLARA; woman!! what can I say?! Err... many many lah! Won't have enough space or time to type EVERYTHING out here. thanks for the "gift" and the computer birthday card. WAHAHA! My very first "purple packet". thanks for always staying by my side. Thanks for clearing up so many things for me. thanks for being a part of my life. thanks for being YOU. -muacks-

Terence; Jalan kayu roti prata & lime juice never tasted so good. THANKS FOR DINNER THAT DAY!

Siti; You cheaterbug! This lady here wished me Happy Birthday at bloody 5.43pm on bloody 27th June! CHEATER!! But hey, an extremely gigantic THANK YOU for the "gift" that you and Clara got me. I prefer this year's present to the previous year's! =p

Nicky; the 2nd person to sms me. You rock my world, li'l lady. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Mugi & Rashmi; you both really shocked me that afternoon! Omg, it really meant alot to me that the both of you actually KNOW my birthdate and bothered to do what you guys did on my special day. Hmm... I have never once regretted being friends with either of you. Our chapter didn't end after EV; it wouldn't end after NYP.

Joycie; my secondary school buddy!! I am dying to meet you, but unfortunately, NYP's very evil and issued me a very tight schedule this semester. Hey, we WILL meet up ok? It's a promise! =) Thanks for the sms... you were NOT late.

Louis "Lou-Lou" Poh; YOU GOT MY BIRTHDAY RIGHT THIS TIME ROUND!! Everytime I ask you when's my birthday, you would either say "29 June" or "28 August". Please lah, it's not THAT HARD to get the date right! Anyway, thanks for the birthday wishes and for your guidance throughout my BB career. Cheers to our friendship, dude!

Jen Sim; My partner in crime who's oh-so-far away in frickin' Canada!! You gotta come home and see me like, NOW! Darling girl, you are irreplaceable and one-of-a-kind. Many thanks for all that you've done for me and come back like, NOW!

Fifie; I wasn't expecting it from you! Haha! But still, thank you! I am touched; truly.

amaL; AMALEEENOTS!! You sure you didn't depend on Friendster?? Kwahahaha! I miss having lunch with you at Mondi after school. Boy, those were the days when I could gorge myself with food. Now, I've gone 2 sizes up so I gotta stop. I am definately gonna have more birthdays in the coming years... we'll also definately still be friends for the many years to come.

Derlinder; YOU GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE FROM NEW ZEALAND! My cake is a "healthier" choice than yours ok! Haha! You waited a month long just to wish me Happy Birthday... thanks babe. THANKS! It's 12 years for us, baby. It doesn't stop here.

Juen Juey & Hadi; Buahahaha! Two very macho judokas! All I can say to you both is, "THANK YOU FOR THE WELL-WISHES AND FOR MAKING ME DO NEVER-ENDING PUSH-UPS DURING TRAININGS!".

Ke Xian; Xie xie ni! Wo hen gan dong!

Kelly; Thanks for remembering, girl! Stay strong in whatever you do alright? I know you're way stronger than you appear to be and you're worth much more than all the crap that life is currently shoving at you. Kathy & Kelly; forever my sisters!

Wei Min; Aisey man.. thanks bro!

Firz; I did enjoy myself ALOT! Thank you, my gal! may you outshine your peers and succeed in whatever you do, yea? Hahaha! And yes, I do still think that short hair suits you to a T.

Qin mei; HELLO, sweetie! You're another unexpected one. Heh! But trust me, I do appreciate it wholeheartedly. Thank you and stay happy =)))

Ah He; THANK YOU MANY MANY MANY MANY!! You were too busy at Cine the other time to talk to me. I'll hope by again one of these days to find you k? Hahaha! I do hope my wishes come true. =p

Hiu Yan & Nura; Wow! I can't think of what to say to you both. We've known each other for less than a month but we seem to click well eh? Lol! Am I touched? Of course I am! Thanks girls. I am so glad I went for the trip and got to know you both (and the others). I bet it wouldn't be much fun without either of you!

DADDY; no words can describe our relationship. no amount of money can buy the type of love you've showered me with. you're the one and only man I can never live without. from the day I was born til now, your love for me hasn't changed or lessened. i love you, old man! not a day goes by without you saying "I love you" to me before heading off to work. sorry for the many times i've troubled you. sorry for the countless times i've disappointed you. you're the greatest gift that I have from God; the best dad a girl can ever ask for. I love you, papa!

MUM; I know you're not the kind who'll express your feelings with words. But your actions speak alot louder and that's all I need. To know that you care is more than what I can ever ask for. I love the cake. Thanks mum, for everything.

LI'L SIS; what's up with giving me a monkey?! I'm a DRAGON! You're the monkey! A big thank you anyway. Can't help you much with Maths (cause I've long forgotten my formulas. oops.) but hey, my science is damn pro ok! Don't play play!

GRANDMA; thanks for the ang-bao. and for not nagging at me anymore. =p

Alive, but not for long =p

This week's a killer week. Killer whales had better take cover!

BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Saving) is tiring! I was practically breathless after doing 30 (THIRTY!!!) compressions and I still had to blow air into the manequin's "trachea" twice before continuing with the same cycle 4 more times.

And Mdm Asmah made me do two-man CPR with Dorie. HAHAHA! It was fun! The only bummer was that I kept forgetting to check for the dummy's "pulse".

Side-note: Is the bottom part of the sternum called a xiphoid-process or a sternal notch?!

HELLO, HELLO! ARE YOU OK?! QUICK, CALL AMBULANCE-995!

-check for breathing; look, listen and feel- BREATHING ABSENT!

-check for pulse- PULSE ABSENT! COMMENCE CPR!

One and two and three and four and five and one and two and three and four and ten and one and two and three and four and fifteen and one and two and three and four and twenty and one and two and three and four and twenty-five and one and two and three and four and thirty

BLOW, BLOW!

-check for pulse- PULSE PRESENT

-check for breathing; look, listen and feel- BREATHING ABSENT! COMMENCE EMERGENCY BREATHING!

BLOW! two a thousand three a thousand four a thousand five a thousand (do this bloody routine 12 times!)

-check for breathing; look, listen and feel- BREATHING PRESENT!

-lay dummy in recurrent position-

****************

Did I miss out any steps??

-two nights ago, i disowned a "friend". no regrets. she was never really a friend to begin with-

And I was chatting with this Thai guy a few moments ago and he asked if I had a boyfriend. I told him YES! Kwahahahaha! He asked me to show him a picture and I randomly selected a photograph of *cough cough*.

His comment after looking at it?

"boyfriend you? very hansom but look gay. he casanova"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Day 2 in Chiangmai, Thailand!

The plan for the day was for us to conquer Chiangmai University, snag all the good-looking Thai guys and make them accompany us to the Night Bazaar!!

I had, in my bag, a sharp blade, a net and masking tape to tape up their mouths so they wouldn't call for help from the Head of Department or their respective lecturers!! Muahahahaha!!!

So we set of in a red cab (bigger version of the tuk-tuk) eagerly; each of us hoping that the poor dude whom we capture is stinkingly rich!

Me, Xueling & Mei Ping with our impish grins before our adventure!

KIDDING LAH!!

We were supposed to go to CMU and every pair of students will visit a different department. I was kinda hoping to get into the Pediatric Department... but the lecturer chose Tami and Tham to join her. So bo bian, Nura and I had to go to the Orthopedic section (which turned out to be really fun!). Initially i thought to myself, "Huh?! Ortho ah?! Boring leh... everything also about bones and joints... I wanna play with children!!!"

But little did I know....

Before being assigned to Ortho department (wear blazer damn stylo... but the heat can kill!)

Group Shot! The guy in yellow on the extreme left, Yo, was in-charge of Nura and I for the day.

Somehow or rather, I look like I'm wearing nothing under my blazer in this photo!

Once in the Orthopedic section, Yo showed us around and explained tonnes of stuff to the both of us patiently and IN GREAT DETAIL, despite knowing that we're nurses and not physiotherapists.

Thanks Yo! It's all very much appreciated!

He then let us try an experiment.

Visualise this: A boy who fractured his arm had his entire forearm wrapped in a cast for 6 months. So when it was finally removed, his palm area was a little numb because he was unable to move it when he had the cast one. Therefore, there was alot of muscle tension. (Phoebe, if my story is inaccurate, please close one eye k? Hahaha!)

Moving on, so HOW TO RELIEF MUSCLE TENSION?!

Let Nura and I show you how!!

Step 1: Insert your hand into a tub of paraffin. Temperature of the liquid has to be at least 40 degree celcius.

Make sure all your fingers are submerged ok! (Nura has the ability to create web-like structures too)

Step 2: Wrap it up in a plastic bag, followed by a towel and wait for 20 minutes.

DON'T LAUGH AT NURA! It's not comfortable! And the senior physio students were peaking at us. So you can imagine how pai seh the poor girl was. In case you're wondering why there's a towel around her neck, well, it's for the relief of muscle tension at the neck region. (Correct or not, Ting Ting??)

You guys get me so far?
NO???!!!!

Ok, we'll go through it once more...

Step 1: Insert your hand into the paraffin (and smiling for the camera helps you gain points as well)

ENSURE THAT IT IS FULLY SUBMERGED UNTIL THE WRIST!!!

Step 2: Wrap it in a plastic bag so it would dirty the towel

Then you use a towel and go over the plastic bag and let it stay in that position for approximately 20 minutes!

-20 agonising minutes pass by-

The paraffin loosens and there you have it, a cast of your own hand!

Made a few new friends who helped us with the procedure as well.

From left to right: Than 1, Fai, yours truly, Nura, Than 2 & Ping

FAI DOESN'T BELIEVE THAT I'M 18!!!!!

After that, we had lunch with the lecturers and one of them brought us on a tour around the school.

HYDROTHERAPY!

And we joined the senior PT students for their lecture on... was it about the lungs? Cause if I'm not mistaken, I heard the lecturer say, "CO2.... O2.... Haemoglobin..."

I wasn't paying that much attention firstly because I was seated right at the back and the students sitting in front of me were VERY TALL. Secondly, I was on the verge of dozing off (poor Tami and Tham couldn't close their eyes eventhough they were tired cause they were made to sit RIGHT IN FRONT of the lecturer!). And lastly, the lecture was in Thai! Yeah, the slides were in English but... too tired to read lah!

I appreciate NYP's lecture theatre so much more now!

Next up, we joined a tutorial on Pediatrics! Yay! FINALLY!

The dolls that students used to practise on; it has joints!!

This li'l fella was kind enough to share his notes with Tami and I. And he also let me play with his doll. I don't know his name but, thanks!!

Their classroom.

Lecturer doing a demonstration

Students with their notes and dolls

See, guys can be gentle too. They're gonna be great dads in the future... I hope!

A very tiring day for me, Nura and Pauline... look at our faces!!!

But then again, we still had energy to chill at the International centre's coffee place after that.

Ice Boom Caramel; the one and only drink I've had at Wawee. IT'S GOOD!

Came back to my room and decided to take a picture of the view from the window

Can see the mountains!!!

HAHAHAHA! Here's our closet!

We went to the Night Bazaar that evening and shopped all the way from 7pm to 12 midnight! No pictures of that place because my hands were full and I was feeling all hot and flustered, so no mood to go on snapping away. I bet we made numerous enemies... cause we kept bargaining and bargaining NON-STOP! Especially Tham and Tami!!! The bag was selling for 3000 baht, but they bargain until 1000 baht! Imagine how long they took to finally get the bag. And yes, they were the last ones to report back to Starbucks!

Day No.1 in Thailand (an amazing experience with incredible people)!

Was kinda bummed when I found out only 4 student nurses (including myself) signed up for this trip. The other 5 ladies were from Physiotherapy. But it didn't dampen my mood or enthusiasm one bit! It was an opportunity for me to widen my network of friends.

Note: It gets kinda boring when the only people you're familiar with are either from your course or CCA.

Dad and Mum sent me off! My heart was racing while in the car towards Changi Airport. We're talking about 8 days abroad ON MY OWN! With a huge sum of cash in my pocket for non-stop shopping! The excitement simply overwhelmed me.

Stupid Clara couldn't come to the airport so she sent me this sms: "Bon voyage ar woman. Take care of yourself. Dun get rape okie! Be careful of the patients over there okie! Love you many! Xoxo"

What can I say? A dumb sms from a dumb person. Tsktsktsk. I swear, I'll finish up your bottle of vodka that's collecting dust in my room!

That's my flight. Nura and I had extreme difficulty in locating the correct gate. Dammit! Our gate just had to be right at the end!

Feelin' bored before take-off. The plane was facing some kinda "technical difficulty" and just drove around for 5 mins.

Bye-bye, Singapore!!!!

Sawadee-ka, Chiangmai!!!

From left to right: Thamarai, Mr Bala, Hiu Yan, Mei Ping, Pauline, Phoebe, Xueling, Tami, me, Nura

I bunked in with Nura at the International Centre. This place is one heck of a hostel man! It is actually for foreign students who're studying in Chiangmai and guess what?! There's free breakfast every morning and tidying up of our rooms!

Our oh-so-comfy beds (mine's the one closest to the window)

Well, since we were being told that we'll be staying in a hostel, I was expecting rowdy students loitering along the corridoors and common toilets...

BUT I WAS WRONG!!!

The people living there were really well-behaved! And each room has it's own spotless bathroom!!!

MY DESK.

Once we were all settled down, Pat (our tour-guide) took us to some place called "Khum Khantoke" for a cultural Northern Thai dinner.

These ladies carving fruits were the first people that greeted my eyes when I alighted from the coach.

Pretty lady playing some sorta instrument. haha! Pat did mention the name of it but I was too engrossed in taking pictures, I wasn't quite paying attention to what she was saying! =X

Yummy Thai dishes! There was chicken curry, mixed vegetables, sweet vermicelli, crackers and iforgottherest. Dinner was damn shiok! So shiok, I had two plates of rice when I should be watching my carbo intake!

See the amount of rice in Nura's plate? Well, I had DOUBLE that amount!!

The performers came out halfway through dinner. I had to make sure my hands were free from all the oil and crumbs before snapping pictures cause the camera I was using belongs to Arlene. Thanks for lending it to me, gal!

Kinda reminds me of a traditional Malay wedding, don't you think?

Here's the solo-dancer. She is so BEAUTIFUL and FLAWLESS!

Couldn't get a clear shot of her because her dance movements were real quick.

When it was time for the dancers to pick out people to dance alng with them, I signalled at her to pick out Mr Bala!! Hahaha! He better thank me for this! He had the chance to dance alongside a future Miss Thailand! (I hope his wife doesn't come across my blog. I'm screwed if she does!)

After I sabo-ed him, he turned the tables on Nura and I!

The dance routine was tiring ok! The movements are so slow, your muscles began to ache. And I had to flex my fingers so hard, they were numb afterwards.

Believe it or not, the girl whom Bala sabo-ed me to dance with is only 15!! I couldn't believe it when she told me. And she couldn't believe it when I told her I was 18!

That's her in the blue outfit!

When I said Bala was a lucky man, I meant REALLY lucky. Look at his dance partner (in pink) up-close for yourself:

Guys, you can STOP salivating now.

Nura and I with the "peacock lady".

Us and the white deer! Hahaha! With so many cameras around, the poor thing had to stay on until way past performance time just to take snapshots with us. Sweet eh? WE LOVE YOU!

Those things around our necks are jasmine flowers, not necklaces or chains or some sorta accessory.

Nura and I waited for 10 frickin' minutes to take this picture. And while waiting, we were deciding on who should be the male and female. My roommate chose to be the male because the female character has exposed nipples!! Her feet looked kinda distorted as well. Lol!

That sums up our first evening in Thailand. Keep a look-out for the rest of the remaining days in the land of a thousand smiles!
