Sometimes, it just sucks.I had a very, very, VERY bad argument with my dad on Tuesday night regarding certain financial issues. I know he's the sole breadwinner of the family and he has his financial constraints (bills, car maintenance, school fees, allowances etc.) but... aiyah, I didn't choose to pick up a fight with him because he didn't like the idea of me enrolling in music lessons lah! I'M NOT THAT MUCH OF A BRAT!! I was just agitated because thinking back, everytime I really want something, my dad would ask me to either do well in my final year exams or pass a maths test before getting it for me. But when it came to lil' sis, he'd get it for her; no strings attached.
Take for example when I was 12 and I had this psycho obssession with roller-blading. Vanessa lent me her old pair of skates because I didn't have one. Borrow people's thing for so long, surely pai seh one right? So I asked dad if he could just get me a cheap pair of skates (which costs only $28.90!!!) and I can return the current pair that I'm using to Vanessa.
He told me that such a cheap pair wouldn't last long, especially judging from the way I skate and how often I went to Pasir Ris park to roll (lol!) from one end of the park to the other. He made a deal with me that if I managed to score well for my PSLE and get into the Express stream, he'll get me any pair of my choice, irregardless of the price.
I didn't score straight As for my PSLE, duh! But I did well enough to get into the Express stream and he did stick to his word and bought me a pair of black roller-blades with glow-in-the-dark lime green wheels.
We brought it back home, sis saw my new toy, whined a wee bit and he bought her a budget pair a few days later.
TAK FAIR KAN!!!
What's up with this act of unfairness man?! I was the one who really loved roller-blading and I was the one who actually knew how to roller-blade. Her? She had no clue about balancing! I even had to teach her how to stand up on skates without stumbling and how to skate the proper way. Dunno how to skate then still wanna buy... siao ah?!!
I can't understand my father at times. I try not to make such a huge fuss out of things cause I don't wanna get accused of being unreasonable or spoilt or whatever shit... but it gets on my nerves when sis gets what she wants without having to work for it.
My current Mp3 player has lasted me for over a year now and it's still in perfect condition. Plus, I bought it with my own money after receiving my second pay-check (dad didn't wanna get me one because he said it would distract me from my studies. some excuse). Sister? She got her first Mp3 player at the age of 12, second one at the age of 13 and just recently, my mum bought her a new Creative one.
Woah.
Though I kept quiet, it doesn't mean I'm ok with it all... I'm not that noble. When I was her age, everything I used was dirt cheap; the jeans that I wore, the bags I used, the shoes on my feet and my mum only bought me a sports bra when our family went to Malaysia for a road-trip. My sis currently wears clothes from.. some shop which I've never heard of before (imagine that!), her shoes are from Converse and Giordano, she has a Crumpler bag (you know how much one costs?!) and her sports bra is from Pierre Cardin!!!!
Argh! I'm lazy to even think about the many acts of biasness against me. It's brain-draining, I tell you.
